Flip the Page

Well, here I am again a few months later.  I finally finished the Flip the Page album that I started in St. Louis at the Following the Paper Trail event in August. Albums don't usually take me that long, because they so rarely get pictures added, but here I have a completed album with one year of dance. There are 170 pictures in the album.

Swap Tag Album

I just got back from an amazing crafting weekend in St Louis with Laura Denison. One of the highlights of the weekend was the many swaps. Before I left I knew I was going to come back with 30 tags and I wanted to display them, not just leave them in a box somewhere.

As I was watching Laura work on her Clearly Dazed and Confused Album  with the We R Memory Keepers fuse tool I realized that would be the perfect way to display my tags.

I took the empty album to St Louis with me and added the tags as soon as I received them, all taken care of. I promised I would make a pattern for this, so here it is. You can increase the width of the spine and binding to add more pages.

Supplies:

Cover

  1. 2 12 X 12 sheets heavy chip board
  2. 1 12 X 2 piece of chip board
  3. Patterned paper to cover ( I used MME Bramble Rose paper weight)

Pages
  1. 6 clear page protectors ( I just used the thin ones, because that is what I had, it would probably be a good idea to purchase the more heavy weight ones)
  2. 8.5 X 11 cardstock for binding and binding strips.
  3. patterned paper for pockets (I used K & Co Elegance)

Instructions
  1. Make cover using your favourite method, with fins to attach the pages (.5” fin, 3/8” gusset).
  2. Make the pages, I used 3 different page styles, A,B and C. A and B are almost the same, with just slightly wider slots for the tag. Choose the page format to make based on the size of the tags that you have, these pages are all designed for #8 tags (which should be 3 1/8 by 6 1/8) if your tags are a different size adjust the pockets accordingly.
  3. Page A and B: These two pages are almost the same, page A has an accent strip of cardstock between the tags, B does not so it allows for slightly wider tags. Here is the template, draw these lines on an 8.5 X 11 piece of white cardstock.

  1. Put the template in page protector to cut openings, this will protect the back of the page protector. Cut openings on the blue dashed lines.
  2. Remove template from pocket, line up template under page protector. Use fuse tool create 1.5” pocket on left. Cut a piece of patterned paper to fill this pocket (almost 1.5 by 11).
  3. Use Fuse to create bottom pocket 3 3/8” from bottom (Page A) or 3 5/8” for page B.
  4. For page A only, Cut a strip of patterned paper just under .5” X 7.5. Put into protector flush with fuse line. Fuse directly above the patterned paper to seal it in page.
  5. Fuse next seam 3 3/8” from last seam for A and 3 5/8” from last seam for B.
  6. For A only add the half inch paper accent strip as in step 4.
  7. Fuse the top of the page protector closed.
4. Page C is for slightly larger tags. Again draw these lines on a piece of white cardstock.

  1.   Put template in page protector to cut on dashed line.
  2.   Remove template, line protector up with template. Fuse the 3 lines of the template, cut .5 X 7.5 decorative strip for middle channel.
5. Create Binding strips, I used a deep edge punch for my binding, if you are not using a punch, or are using a narrower punch you can use narrower strips. Cut 2 strips 2.5” X 11” cardstock for each page. Punch if desired. Attach strips to each side of page protector to cover binding holes on page protector and overhang the page by .5” to form pocket for binding fins. Score tape will work to attach the strips to the page protectors.
6. Attach page to the binding fins using score tape.
7. If you don't want to use a fin type binding, make the strips .5” narrower so there is no overhang and you can just repunch the binder holes in the page after you have attached the strips and use binder rings to bind. If you didn't add the strips, the original holes in the page protectors would not be strong enough.

Finally

Welcome to my new blog, I've been planning on creating a blog to share my new love of paper crafting for years (ever since my love of paper crafting was new, sometime in 2009).

Yes I started this blog in 2013 and had NO posts, OK there was one, it said "Day One".

Yes I'm a procrastinator.

Yes my desk does look like this when I craft ... However Zelda is only an occasional assistant.

Yesterday I was accepted to be on a new design team ... The Kit and CaDoodle crew for Laura Denison Designs ... I am so excited for this opportunity  ... also a great incentive to actually start updating my blog.

One good thing about taking five years to actually start my blog means that I have five years worth of projects to display.

So today I'm going to post pictures of my first Laura kit, it was the Heritage Album. This was a page a month kit, we got the kit in January and for the next six months one of Laura's U-stream shows was dedicated to making a page in the album. All the pages are different shapes and different materials (chipboard, acrylic, canvas). One day I'm even going to put some old family pictures in this one.
